The Holy Trinity Church of England Secondary School

Christian Distinctiveness

Holy Trinity is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Secondary School whose vision is to              be ‘a centre of excellence for learning inspired by Christian values where every person in            our school community fulfils their potential.

We are a multi-faith, multi-cultural community which celebrates our diversity; values every individual as a child of God; seeks to be inclusive in every way; and which is underpinned by Christian values.

Throughout his life and ministry, as told in the Gospels, Jesus shows that God’s values are not the world’s values.  He speaks of God’s love for all, demonstrates God’s desire to reach out to the lost, and in his life and death shows what servant leadership means.  It is this that informs our work as a school.  We are known for going the extra mile, for not giving up on those who push the boundaries, for supporting the most vulnerable.  John 10:10 speaks of God’s desire that all his creation would flourish.  This leads to our commitment to maintaining a broad and balanced curriculum and to providing enriching opportunities both within and beyond the classroom.

We express our school ethos through four key underpinning elements which are developmental – each building on that which goes before:

DIGNITY - “God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”   (Genesis 1 v 27)

Underpinning all that we do is the core belief in the ultimate worth of each person as a child of God – precious, valued and loved by God.  This is the starting point – knowing who we are and our ultimate worth as a human being.

COMMUNITY - ‘Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another’  (1 John 4 v 11)

Having understood our value as individual human beings, we express this value through the quality of the relationships that we share with each other.  Community, living well together, is of very great importance to us as a school, as is the place we each take in the wider community locally, nationally and internationally.

WISDOM – ‘How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!’ (Proverbs 16 v 16)

Positive relationships as a community enable us to learn well together.  As a school we seek to foster confidence, delight and discipline in seeking wisdom, knowledge and truth.   This is achieved through the nurturing of academic habits and skills, emotional intelligence, resilience and creativity across the breadth of the curriculum.

HOPE - ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit’  (Romans 15 v 13)

As we learn well together so we are prepared for the future.  We look to open up horizons of hope and aspiration, encouraging our whole school community to embrace these with confidence and reaching out to make a difference to the world in which we live.

In this section of the website you will find information relating to our Christian Distinctiveness.  I hope that it will give you an insight into what it means for us to be a Church School.  Our school prayer sums this up:

Loving God,

Teach us to respect the dignity of each other

so that we can be a community where

all are valued and feel they belong.

As we learn together,

help us to grow in wisdom

so that we may bring hope to the world in which we live.

AMEN
